Date: March 13, 2014
WHO: GSP International Airport District Fire Department
WHAT: New Doppler Radar Rescue Plan
WHERE: National Weather Service Doppler Radar
WHEN: Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 1:00pm
The GSP International Airport Fire Department is conducting special training at the request of the National Weather Service. The GSP Fire Department has been asked to create a Standard Operation Guideline in the event that the rescue of personnel from the radar dome is necessary. Equipment that was once housed on the ground level is now located in the dome, and requires service personnel to more frequently enter the dome. Specialized equipment and personnel are now required to make such a rescue so the services of area first responders are required. Varying options for rescue are being tested and once completed the GSP Fire Department’s Standard Operation Guideline will be used at National Weather Service Doppler Radar locations across the eastern seaboard at 120 similar sites.
