Community Relations Specialist II

Position Summary (Primary Function)

The professional Community Relations Specialist II will be responsible for identifying and coordinating community relations events that will present the Airport to Upstate communities with a consistent message. This position will also support the public relations team in planning events designed to engage the Airport District with the community and create goodwill.

Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions)

  • Identify and coordinate GSP Airport participation in community focused events
  • Work collaboratively with the Public Relations Specialist to create social media campaigns designed to engage the community
  • Work collaboratively with all GSP departments to help ensure all external messages are consistent with the airport message and position within the community
  • Assist in the identification of opportunities for participation by the GSP Speaker’s Bureau
  • Assist the Community Relations Manager with the development and execution of special events and serve as the lead on some events as directed
  • Conceptualize fun and inventive campaigns to help support overall Communications Department initiatives
  • Participate in the development and implementation of internal communications tools and events  Identity community engagement opportunities and make recommendations for Airport District participation
  • Assist in the creation of  webcasts, websites and surveys
  • Active member of the special events team
  • Other general community relations communications duties as assigned

Education Requirements (Evaluation Factors: Skills, Education, Experience, and Ability)

  • BS/BA Degree in  Communications, Public Relations or a related field or equivalent work experience

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum five years’ work experience in the practice of community relations and or communications
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communications skills


Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient in using the latest versions of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Email and web searches
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; capability for analytical thinking, dynamic presentation skills
  • Detail oriented and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Strategic and tactical thinker
  • Skilled in utilizing social media to accomplish business goals

Valid SC Driver’s Licenses

Latitude/Independent Judgment/Accuracy

  • The Customer Service/Community Relations Manager  establishes workflow for the position
  • Diligence must be exercised when handling confidential information
  • Responsible for own work, but must coordinate work with others

Working Conditions

  • Physical Demand – Little physical effort required.  Some light lifting, carrying, walking, standing, pushing, pulling, stooping and kneeling requirements necessary up to 20% of the time.  Sitting required 80% of the time.
  • Mental and or Visual Demands- Mental and visual demands vary with function performed.  Consistent mental attention needed to monitor work flow and respond efficiently.
  • Attentiveness to work procedures will reduce potential risk of minor injury in certain work areas
  • Exposed to normal office environment and limited industrial environment
  • Accidents unlikely outside of minor injury such as abrasions, cuts or bruises
